Promptbook

Private — built for Agile Lens, exploring wider release

Spatial blocking and set previz for theatre on Apple Vision Pro — the stage manager's promptbook, reimagined in 3D.

In 2013, Alex strapped on an Oculus DK1 to pioneer the world's first VR theatrical sightline test. Promptbook is the same instinct twelve years later: set a stage as a tabletop miniature on your desk, drop in actor marks and set pieces, define blocking beats, then scrub the timeline and watch the whole cast glide between positions. One tap promotes the miniature to a full-scale walk-in stage, so you can stand center-stage and check a sightline from any seat in the house — the exact question that started this whole career, now answerable in minutes.

From tabletop to full scale

Design blocking on a miniature stage, drag actor marks into position, and scrub a beat timeline to watch the whole cast glide between positions. One tap promotes the same scene to full scale in an immersive space — stand where the actors stand and check what any seat in the house actually sees.

Record the walk

Cast yourself as a character and walk the blocking on the full-scale stage — your recorded path becomes the mark's path on playback, while the rest of the cast holds its beat positions around you.

The script and the blocking, finally in one place

Import a script — plain text, PDF, or Final Draft .fdx — into a dedicated reader that stays in sync with the beat timeline: scrub the blocking and the reader scrolls to the linked line, tap a line and the playhead jumps to its beat. A real promptbook interleaves blocking with text; this is the first digital one that actually does.

Bring your own set

Import a real set as a .usdz model and it becomes the stage, marks and all. Export the whole production as a printable promptbook PDF — a top-down ground plan per beat with a cast legend, the exact document a stage manager already knows how to read.

At a glance

  • Tabletop miniature staging that promotes to a full-scale, walk-in stage with one tap
  • Record-the-walk: perform a character's path once, play it back against the rest of the cast
  • Script reader (text/PDF/Final Draft .fdx) stays synced to the blocking timeline both directions
  • Import a real set as a .usdz model; export a printable ground-plan PDF per beat
  • Built on visionOS 26 — SwiftUI, RealityKit, SwiftData
